LAMA President’s Corner
President's Message - February 2007

|
Hello Everyone,
The shortest month of the year has arrived.
February may be short, but it is certainly packed with holidays and activities. It also means that I get to indulge in some of my favorite things; flowers, chocolate and of course the Westminster Dog Show.
There is a down side to the month at least here in New England and that is cold and snowy. I can comfort myself with thoughts of Puerto Rico with its warm sun and beautiful beaches. I hope that you will be able to join me and your other colleagues for the LAMA Annual Meeting June 20-21. LAMA is also hosting a Certified Manager Program prior to the meeting on June 18-19. For more detailed information on both the meeting and the training program you can check out the LAMA website at http://www.lama-online.org.
As I have indicated in my previous messages, I am currently enrolled in the CMAR program and have successfully completed Module I. As you read this message, I am preparing to take the exam for Module II. The most challenging aspect has been finding the time to study and take the two hour exams. I know that for many of you this will also be the case, but it is definitely worth the effort. I have gained some new perspectives on management and look forward to applying this new found knowledge in my day to day tasks.
I am pleased to announce that the LAMA Foundation has awarded two ILAM scholarships for 2007. Maria Lang is a Laboratory and Surgery Area Supervisor at the University of Illinois and Michelle Gillespie is a Supervisor/Project Manager at the University of Calgary. The Foundation was pleased to be able to support Maria and Michelle and hopes that they both enjoy and learn from their ILAM experience.
On a final note, you will soon receive information regarding a LAMA online membership survey. The questions that you answer will help LAMA leadership plan for the future. We want to hear from you – so please complete this important survey and let us know what is on your mind!
Regards,
Regina
