LAMA President’s Corner

President's Message - October 2006

I hope that all of you who attended National AALAS in Salt Lake City enjoyed the conference and returned safely home.

I waited until returning from National to update all of you on some key points which were discussed at the LAMA Executive Board Meeting on October 14th.

One of the most important tasks that I have been involved with during the summer was working to achieve 501(c)(3) status for the LAMA Foundation. This designation will allow donations to the Foundation to be a deductible contribution and allow us to grow enough to increase the number of scholarships available to our members. As I write this message, the IRS required information is in the process of review and it is my hope that in my next column I can report that this goal has been achieved.

I am happy to report that LAMA’s membership has reached an all time high of 737 members. We will continue to work on increasing membership both in the US and abroad. The Executive Committee has appointed an ad hoc to look at ways to increase international membership. This committee led by Fred Douglas will reach out to our colleagues in Europe, Asia and South/Central America to invite them to join us in becoming a truly international organization.

In addition to this record number of members, LAMA is fiscally sound thanks in large part to the dedication and diligence of our Treasurer, Howard Mosher and Chair of the Financial Oversight Committee, Sally Thomas.

We continue to grow and improve our website and LAMA Review will soon be undergoing a similar update. Please visit www.lama-online.org for the most up to date information on events and important membership information.

The BOD received several reports from members regarding a general lack of communication from LAMA. The Executive Board is working with Jim Manke, Executive Director on systems and processes to improve communication. Among these are membership surveys, blast email notifications, and periodic contact information update requests from the membership committee. I am confident that with these systems in place we can improve communication between LAMA and its members. If you are experiencing problems related to your membership, would like to update and/or confirm your information please contact Keith Knapp, Membership Development Manager at LAMA Headquarters; (952) 253-6243 or kknapp@associationsolutionsinc.com.

Please feel free to contact me at anytime to share your ideas on how to improve LAMA.

Regina
